GOP presidential candidate Rep. Michele Bachmann says if any of her children had been abused by former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky, her first reaction would be to “beat him to a pulp.”
“This is so horrific on the level of a parent,” Mrs. Bachmann said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press. “I think about my children, and if that was my child, and I think my automatic reaction would be — even though I’m a small woman — I’d want to go find that guy and beat him to a pulp.
“I think that’s what any parent would want to do when they think about their child,” she said.
Mrs. Bachmann, who has five biological children and 23 foster children, said Congress should stay out of the case because it’s a “state matter and should stay at the state level.”
Mr. Sandusky, 67, was charged last weekend with molesting eight boys over a 15-year period. The scandal has rocked the Penn State campus and brought down the university’s beloved football coach, Joe Paterno, as well as its president, Graham Spanier.
The Minnesota Republican also defended the media for the high level of attention it has given the case.
“The media gets beaten up a lot, but I think this is exactly where the media is needed more than ever, to bring light to this situation,” she said.
