Video posted on Facebook showed a uniformed female, later identified as Petty Officer 2nd Class Sarah J. Dudrey, 24, jumping out of her car and getting in the faces of several American flag-waving protesters gathered outside the Ventura County Government Center on Sunday.
“F– Trump!” she screamed in the video, raising both middle fingers.
“Who’s your commanding officer?!” one of the protesters shouted back.
“Take off the uniform!” several people yelled as Petty Officer Dudrey continued screaming at them. She eventually got back in her car and the crowd cheered her departure.
According to the Navy Times, the petty officer is assigned to Naval Base Ventura County, and her command is looking into the video.
“The Navy is a proponent of free speech and active-duty members are free to participate in protests during their off-duty time,” Navy spokeswoman Melinda Larson told the outlet. “However, Navy members are not authorized to wear military uniforms while engaging in protests and voicing personal opinions.”
“After a thorough inquiry into the matter, the Commanding Officer will make a determination on what actions are warranted,” she added.
