CNN President Jeff Zucker blasted Fox News Thursday, calling the cable news rival a “pure propaganda machine” for the Trump administration.
“What has happened there in the last two years is somewhat shocking, frankly. It really is state-run TV,” Mr. Zucker said at the Financial Times’ Future of News conference in New York City.
“It is a pure propaganda machine and I think does an incredible disservice to this country,” he told FT’s Matthew Garrahan, Variety reported. “There are a handful of really good journalists there, but I think they are lost in what is a complete propaganda machine and the idea that it’s a news channel is really not the case at all.”
Mr. Zucker said he agreed with former Fox News contributor Col. Ralph Peters, who in an email to Fox News colleagues announcing his resignation slammed the right-leaning network as a “mere propaganda machine for a destructive and ethically ruinous administration.”
“He said out loud what many have been saying about what Fox News has become,” Mr. Zucker said.
By contrast, CNN’s last three years have been the best three years in the 38-year history of CNN, the network president boasted.
“We’ve made CNN relevant again, and it’s part of the national and international conversation,” he said.
