Conservative radio talk show host Michael Savage says it’s “open season” on President Trump supporters after he was allegedly attacked by a man outside a San Francisco Bay Area restaurant Tuesday night.
“It is clearly open season on prominent Trump supporters,” he said. “The fascist left has been empowered by their own false narrative that those who support borders, language and culture — my motto — are evil fascists! This is how Hitler came to power. He used his brown shirts to beat any opponents. The media and police are almost wholly driven by this lie.”
Mr. Savage’s attorney, Daniel Horowitz, said the 74-year-old radio host was confronted Tuesday night by a man outside Servino Ristorante in Tiburon, California, and pushed to ground while holding a bag of leftover food in one hand and his toy poodle, Teddy, in the other.
Mr. Horowitz said another customer who tried to intervene was punched in the face by Mr. Savage’s alleged attacker. Mr. Horowitz said Mr. Savage was able to get up and help the other victim while he called police.
Tiburon police spokeswoman Laurie Nilsen told the San Jose Mercury News that no arrests were made and both men were released at the scene. The case will be referred to the District Attorney’s Office to determine whether charges will be filed.
Mr. Horowitz told 415 Media blogger Rich Lieberman that his office is looking into whether the attack was politically motivated due to Mr. Savage’s staunch support of Mr. Trump.
“We’re going to seek felony charges against the man, and we’re going to investigate this as a Hate Crime because of Michael’s political views,” he said.
Mr. Savage’s latest nonfiction book, titled Trump’s War: His Battle for America, was also released Tuesday.
