UKIAH, Calif. (AP) - A former doctor has been charged with murder in the death of his wife, which authorities in Northern California initially thought was the result of an accident seven years ago.
The Ukiah Daily Journal reports (https://bit.ly/2xeLn0Z ) Peter Keegan was arraigned in court Friday, two days after a Mendocino County grand jury indicted him for second-degree murder. He did not enter a plea.
Authorities initially thought Susan Keegan died in 2010 after falling in the bathroom of her Ukiah home.
Her death was reclassified as a homicide two years later. Then the District Attorney’s office reopened the case after her friends and family pushed for prosecution of the killer. They claimed Peter Keegan’s story that his wife had become an addict was unlikely and that he was behaving suspiciously.
