“I am very appreciative of Eddie and I applaud his actions,” Mr. Cosby said through a spokesperson, NBC News reported.
According to former “Saturday Night Live” cast member and comedian Norm Macdonald, Mr. Murphy reportedly rejected an offer to impersonate Mr. Cosby, who is facing rape and drugging accusations from more than two dozen women.
“He knew the laughs would bring the house down. Eddie Murphy knows what will work on SNL better than any one,” he added. “Eddie Murphy, I realize, is not like the rest of us. Eddie does not need the laughs.”
Mr. Murphy, who joined “Saturday Night Live” in 1981 when he was only 19, did make a brief appearance during the special over the weekend to talk about what the legendary show meant to him, NBC reported.
