Democrat Alexander Green

Al Green (b. September 1, 1947, in New Orleans, LA) is a Democratic member of the U.S. House representing Texas's 9th Congressional District. He is seeking reelection to his current seat. Green was first elected to the House in the general election in 2004. In 2018, Green defeated Libertarian Phil Kurt, Independent Benjamin Hernandez and Independent Kesha Rogers (Green – 89.1%; Kurt – 3.9%; Hernandez – 3.8%; Rogers – 3.3%). Green attended Florida A&M University and Tuskegee University. He earned a J.D. from Texas Southern University Thurgood Marshall School of Law. He worked as a lawyer in private practice and as justice of the peace in Harris County, TX. Green also served as President of the Houston Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
