Democrat Alma Adams

Alma Adams (b. May 27, 1946, in High Point, NC) is a Democratic member of the U.S. House representing the 12th Congressional District of North Carolina. Adams was first elected to this seat in 2014. She is seeking reelection to her current seat. In 2018, McHenry won the election by defeating Paul Wright (R) (Adams - 73.1%; Wright - 26.9%). She earned a B.S. and a M.S. from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and a Ph.D. from the Ohio State University. Prior to his congressional career, Adams served in the North Carolina House of Representatives, representing District 58. He is a university professor by profession.
