Virginia Foxx (b. June 29, 1943, in New York, NY) is a Republican member of the U.S. House representing the 5th Congressional District of North Carolina. Foxx was first elected to this seat in 2004. She is seeking reelection to her current seat. In 2018, Foxx won election by defeating Denise Adams (D) (Foxx - 57.0%; Adams - 43.0%). She earned a B.A. and M.A.C.T. from the University of North Carolina and an Ed.D. from the University of North Carolina. Prior to her election to the House, Foxx served as a member of the North Carolina State Senate as well as deputy secretary for management for North Carolina.
