Democrat Bennie Thompson

Bennie Thompson (b. January 28, 1948, in Bolton, MS) is a Democratic member of the U.S. House representing Mississippi's 2nd Congressional District. Thompson was first elected to this seat in 1993. He is seeking reelection to his current seat. In 2018, Thompson won the election by defeating Troy Ray (I) and Irving Harris (Reform Party) (Thompson – 71.8%; Ray – 21.7%; Harris – 6.5%). He earned his B.A. from Tougaloo College and his M.S. from Jackson State University. Prior to his election to the U.S. House, Thompson served as an alderman and then as the mayor of Bolton.
