Republican James Bishop

Dan Bishop (b. July 1, 1964, in NC) is a Republican member of the U.S. House representing the 9th Congressional District of North Carolina. Bishop was first elected to this seat in 2019 in a special election. He is seeking reelection to his current seat. In 2019, Murphy won the election by defeating Chad Stachowicz (D) (Bishop - 52.9%; Stachowicz - 47.1%). He earned a B.A. and a J.D. from University of North Carolina. Prior to his congressional career, Bishop was a Republican member of the North Carolina State Senate, representing District 39 and previously served in the North Carolina House of Representatives, representing District 104. He is an attorney by profession.
