Republican Gregory Murphy

Greg Murphy (b. March 5, 1963, in NC) is a Republican member of the U.S. House representing North Carolina's 3rd Congressional District. Murphy was first elected in the 2019 in a special election to fill the vacancy caused by the death of United States Representative Walter Beaman Jones, Jr.. He is seeking reelection to his current seat. In 2019, Murphy won the election by defeating Joan Perry (R) (Murphy - 59.7%; Perry - 40.3%). He earned a B.A. and a J.D. from Wake Forest University. Prior to his congressional career, Murphy was a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives, representing District 9. He graduated from Davidson College, Davidson and earned a M.D. from University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.He is an urologic surgeon by profession.
