Rep. Elijah Cummings said Thursday that the vetting process inside the White House needs to be looked at further.

Mr. Cummings said on MSNBC, “We need to look at the vetting process and how it takes place in new administrations.”

The Maryland Democrat highlighted a letter he sent to Vice President Mike Pence in November flagging former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn as “not the right guy” to bring into the White House.

“I’m not sure the role that the letter played. I sent him a very lengthy letter, this was in November, so I do think, and basically when I asked him about it later on, that he was just in a fog and he doesn’t remember getting it,” said Mr. Cummings.

“This was a red flag letter that this was just not the right guy to hire,” he said.

But Mr. Cummings also said he was pleased with the direction of the Russian probe and bringing in a special prosecutor.

“I feel we can now move forward. And I feel good about it.”
