TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A former U.S. Border Patrol agent who pleaded guilty to charges that the he tried to smuggle cocaine in Arizona has been sentenced to over 13 years in federal prison.
Juan Pimentel of Rio Rico was sentenced on Friday after pleading guilty to attempted possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and receiving a bribe by a public official.
Court records also show that in February 2015 Pimentel received a cash payment for providing the results of a license plate query taken from a database only used by law enforcement.
Pimentel was an agent in Arizona since October 2001 but resigned shortly after his arrest.
