With the start of the Major League Baseball still about a month away, the District’s baseball junkies can get a fix in their own backyard this weekend, as Harvard, Lafayette, and Coppin State play a slate of games at the Washington Nationals Youth Academy Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free.

On Friday, Lafayette takes on Harvard at 3:30 p.m., followed by Harvard against Coppin at 7 p.m.

Coppin faces Lafayette on Saturday at 5 p.m., followed by a Harvard-Lafayette rematch at 8:30 p.m.

On Sunday, Coppin and Harvard take the field at 10 a.m., followed by Lafayette against Coppin at 1:30 p.m.

DC Grays baseball, a nonprofit organization devoted to supporting baseball in inner-city DC, is teaming with the Headfirst Companies to support the event.

DC Grays Vice President Chris Spera, who helped coordinate and schedule the event. said the games will give District residents a rare chance to see Division 1 baseball up close.

“We look forward to being a part of hosting these games,” Spera said. Since GW [George Washington] and Georgetown play their games in suburban Maryland and Virginia respectively, these games will be the only Division 1 college baseball games contested within the District.”

The academy is located at 3675 Ely Place, SE.
