KOSSUTH, Miss. (AP) - Recently identified human remains have been discovered as belonging to a missing Alcorn County woman in a homicide investigation.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports (http://bit.ly/2obfxSM ) human remains found January in the Kossuth area were identified on Thursday to be from 39-year-old Ellen Teressa Coughlin.


Alcorn County Sheriff Ben Caldwell says DNA results from Mississippi’s crime lab made the identification. Coughlin was reported missing by a family member in October 2016. The last known contact with her was in August.

The sheriff’s office says the remains were found in a wooded area on County Road 510 and that no charges have been filed. They have asked anyone with information about Coughlin’s disappearance or death to contact Alcorn County investigators at (662) 286-5521.
