A 60-year-old man fatally stabbed Thursday night in the District was a cab repair shop manager killed during the robbery of his business, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
Hayes Osei Dennis of Fort Washington was stabbed in the chest around 7 p.m. while working at Gold Star Cab Company, a taxi cab company and repair shop located at 39 Q St. SW, just blocks from Nationals Park.
There were no signs of forced entry to the shop and police believe Mr. Dennis was approached by his attacker while inside. It was unclear the series of events that led up to the fatal attack and whether or not there was a struggle between attacker and the shop manager.
“We are still trying to determine what motivated the person to stab him,” Lt. Alder said.
When officers arrived at the shop, they found Mr. Dennis unconscious and not breathing. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Employees contacted Friday at the Gold Star Cab Company declined to comment.
Thus far, police have only been able to describe the attacker as a black man wearing a white shirt who was seen running northbound on Half Street after the stabbing.
Several businesses in the area have surveillance cameras and police are in the process of reviewing recordings to determine if the man was caught on tape as he ran away, Lt. Alder said.
