Rory McIlroy's trophy walk at the U.S. Open

A camera man walked backwards into the media center at Congressional Country Club with security guards flanking the U.S. Open champion.

Rory McIlroy was the center of attention, but he wasn’t even holding the trophy. While McIlroy made a call on his iPhone, Stuart held the trophy on the way to the big post-championship interview.

McIlroy had some texting and tweeting to do, so Cage got the honor.

“It made my day,” Cage said.

Approached by a couple reporters, Cage talked about plans to fly out of Boston tomorrow and what’s coming up in terms of media availability this week. But his smile was ever-present as McIlroy walked to the podium and sat next to the trophy.

But the 22-year-old champ wasn’t done, as he took a photo of the trophy in front of him and sent it out on Twitter with the message: “#winning #bounceback.”
