Boehner and Pelosi share a warm embrace

← return to Inside Politics

House GOP Speaker John Boehner and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi embraced on the House floor Thursday afternoon, sharing an unusually amicable moment as lawmakers congratulated the California Democrat on her 25-year anniversary in Congress.

Lawmakers broke into laughter as Mr. Boehner described his relationship with Mrs. Pelosi as “very workable,” given that the two lead opposing parties during one of the most contentious sessions in memory.

“The gentlelady and I have a very workable relationship and actually have a warm relationship because we all serve this institution,” Mr. Boehner said.

Lawmakers commended Mrs. Pelosi for her years of service and for making history by becoming the first female House speaker in 2007.
